Dance for Parkinson’s

Our weekly Dance for Parkinson’s classes combine movement, live music, creative exercises and vocal work and are always build around themes and stories. These classes are run in partnership with Oxford City Council.

Movers & Shakers at the Museum of Oxford

MuMo Creative leads a monthly Friday afternoon dance and music class ‘Movers & Shakers’ at the Museum of Oxford as part of their older people’s programme.

New Preventative Dance Class - Autumn 2024

This weekly dance class combines movement, live music, vocal work and creative exercises to enhance physical and mental health. Each term we focus on different themes from musicals to great ballets and other famous stories. The class is brilliant for those under a risk of age-related neurodegeneration and the newly diagnosed.

Mindful Movement For Parkinson’s - Autumn 2024

Sessions with mindful movement, breath work, yoga and mindfulness-based exercises aiming to support both the motor and non-motor symptoms related to Parkinson’s. The programme will be co-created with people living with Parkinson’s.

Transfiguration: the power of music & dance - 1st June 2024

MuMo Creative is offering a free workshop in the Jitterbug at the University Parks on the 1st June at 5.30pm. The Jitterbug is produced by The Cultural Programme and Trigger as part of the Oxford Kafka 2024 celebrations. This workshop is inspired by Kafka’s Metamorphosis and co-created by MuMo Creative and our incredible Dance for Parkinson’s group. We combine live music, sound work, movement and creative tasks to explore the transformative effects of dance and music.

Transfiguration: the power of music & dance at the Weston Library - 4th July 2024

Drawing inspiration from Kafka’s metamorphosis, the workshop at the Weston Library combines live music, dance and creative exercises to boost physical and mental wellbeing, and to celebrate the transformative effects of dance and music. Experience a synergy of sound, movement and creativity in this workshop co-created with our Parkinson’s group.

Workshops at Oxford Playhouse - Autumn 2024

We have been offering our popular workshops at the Oxford Playhouse as part of their Social Thursdays and Later-in-Life programme. We are excited to continue our collaboration with Oxford Playhouse and planning new workshops for the autumn 2024.

Dance for Parkinson’s Video Library

During the Covid-19 pandemic we created and filmed online classes from our homes and hearts to the participants of our Oxford Dance for Parkinson’s group. These sessions are freely available and offer gentle creative seated movement and music sessions for all levels and ages. These session are particularly suitable for older people including those with Parkinson's.

MuMo Creative and our Dance for Parkinson’s group were involved in an opera film featuring the creative talents of 85 members of the UK Parkinson’s community and produced by Cohere Arts.

Dance for Health at MERL

Our artists were commissioned to develop a Dance for Health programme for the Museum of English Rural Life at the University of Reading drawing inspiration from the museum collections and related stories. .

MuMo Creative in Japan

We developed and led a workshop on Leading Dance for Older People for students and faculty at the Ochanomizu University in Tokyo.
